Real Bride - Imogen

Imogen first got in touch with me after seeing the Gaia dress from the collection featured on Instagram. In her words, the moment she saw it she had an ‘ah ha’ moment and realised it might just be the style she had been searching for. Gaia was ticking alot of boxes for her, especially with the option of making a few bespoke design alterations to the style to make it absolutely perfect for her.

Imogen was so lovely to work with, I enjoyed my appointments with her and her Mum hugely. Imogen and Jack both work in theatre and film so there were some theatrical elements to their wedding which reflected their personalities beautifully. Imogen herself is a magpie drawn to sparkles and pink, florals and fun, disco balls and unicorn vibes, which is so easy to see from their wedding day.

During our first consultation Imogen tried on a few of the styles from my collection and although she loved different elements of each dress, the moment she put on Gaia she could tell it was going to be the dress for her, she looked glorious in it. Imogen appreciated the way the detailed fabric felt like a modern alternative to a traditional lace, whilst still giving a whimsical feel with a flowing silhouette and pale blush undertone. She knew she wanted to add some extra length to the train for added drama and try some bespoke sleeve options to see what might work with the style.

During our second fitting we tried a variety of sleeves including a puff sleeve, a short capped sleeve and flutter sleeves of varying lengths. I created toiles of each sleeve option in the Gaia fabric which would be pinned into the armhole during our fitting so Imogen could fully envisage what each option would look like. We settled on the longer flutter sleeve in the end which changed the look of the dress to make it perfectly unique for Imogen.

We toyed with a few other bespoke additions including adding some coloured embroidery but in the end decided that the dress had enough detail and to let the fabric be the focal point of the design. During each of our fittings I worked on sizing alterations to make sure the dress fit Imogen like a glove when she came to collect it. Her size had changed a bit along the way as we first met over a year ahead of their wedding date, so it was ideal to be able to make these alterations during the making process.

Imogen paired her bespoke gown with a beautiful embroidered veil which was adorned with a coloured laser cut floral design along the edge, another fun and ethereal detail to add to her look. In her hair she wore a rose gold and ivory vine which complimented her blonde waves beautifully. We also made a hair Bow out of the Gaia fabric so she could wear this in the evening after her veil had come off and also after the wedding, I loved making this little extra accessory.

The bridal party each wore shades of blush pink sequins which twinkled beautifully in the July sunshine. The Mother of the bride wore a beautiful floral embroidered dress which paired so nicely with the botanical details of Imogen’s dress. Imogen and Jacks wedding was full of awesomely quirky touches, reflecting the couples theatre and dramatic roots! The rings were delivered down the aisle by an owl, guests were served welcome drinks by ‘Champonies’ scroll for photos of these gorgeous chaps, and the dance floor was adorned by mirror balls and indoor trees.

It was such a pleasure creating Imogen’s bespoke wedding dress, Congratulations Imogen and Jack, wishing you every happiness.
